What Type of Yoga is taught in classes

Whats Yoga ?

People practising Yoga can vary greatly and is very diverse. The definition of Yoga needs to customised for the reader according to the needs and purposes of the people practising it.

Broadly a Human being has 4 different levels
1.    Core Energy - The Inner unseen force
2.    Intellect  - Rational Thought
3.    Mind - Seat of Emotion
4.    Physical body - The gate of Senses to outer world

Yoga could be defined for harmony at each level of human existence.
Yoga for Physical Body

Asanas mainly constitute the asanas for the Physical body where the different parts of the body are excercised , flexed to give strength and flexibility to each and every part. The seat of physical health is at the base of the spine. So all the practices are given for strenghthening the spine and increase endurance and relaxation of physical nervous system

Yoga for Mental peace
The Breathing associated with each of the asanas constitues the Yoga Pranayama. Deep breathing tones the mind and removes all the stress. Stress is defined as the blockage of energy in the Spinal column. When the Spinal breathing is going very deep , the toxins are removed and brain is cooled down. This results in Mental calmness and peace

Yoga for Intellectual Prowess
The rational thought is seeking something beyond. The tendency and curiosity of obtaining knowledge is function of the ForeBrain. Through proper opening and training of inner channels leading to forebrain ,  and by balancing both the hemispheres of the brain , dormant faculties of the brain can opened up through Yoga. Practioners start observing increasing self confidence and keen eye for questioning as to "Why" everything happens ?

Yoga for Soul Fulfillment - Realisation for Self

This is applicable to aspirants who seek to know the answers to question "Who am I ? Whats my objective here ?". Whom we call Seekers of Truth. The Energy working from behind is support for Body , mind and INtellect . It is what we call "Self". This self can be realised which is highest prize of practioner of Yoga.

Spiritual Initiation or Deeksha (Brahmopadesam)

When the life force of aspirant is brought from the base of spine upward through the central canal (sushumna nadi) of the spinal cord crossing the backbrain and to the forehead Center by the grace of experienced spiritual instructor , it is called initiation. The screen covering the intellect is pierced by power generated by the Authorised teacher and then practioner can experience a throbbing or a tickling sensation or a sensation of heat. This is the pulse of the soul or Divine Vibration.

The Initiation is a traditional method of Lighting the inner Energy from one Lighted soul to other. This is often misunderstood as a Cult. But this is really part of the evolutionary process.

Analogies :

For students of Physics
-------------------------------
A iron bar is potentially a magnet. But since the rays of magnetism is all in all directions the resultant current in single direction is ZERO , therefore it ceases to be a magnet. but when it is brought under the External field of magnetism , it aligns itself in a single direction and becomes a magnet. The residual magnetism stays for a short time period. But when the iron bar sticks sufficiently long to Magnet , it is magnetised permanently.

Similarily the Rays of human mind are scattered hiding its potential , when it is concentrated by the power of concentration and external support in the beginning , it acquires Bio magnetism on its own.

Common sense Example
-----------------------------
From One lighted candle ,we light the other candles. This is precisely what is being done. The power to glow is present in each candle , once lit it is self sufficient to glow on its own.

Similarily every humans mind is capable and fully potent. It can express its own potential only dependent of how convergent its rays are.

Benefits of practise
The biggest benefit of Kundalini Meditation is stimulation of good thoughts in ones mind and thereby guides the life from within for the practioner. It makes ones Self Realise things as they are

To the Body
When energy rises to brain and then flows into the body , it gives good feeling to the body. The bio heat generated as a result of meditation purifies blood. The various ills of the body also gets cleared.

To the Mind
When Kundalini meditation is practised sincerely , the mind flows as a clear stream just like water currents in the middle of sea. The stress that comes with various responsibilities of life tends to wane away over a period of time depending upon practioner

To the intellect
The pleasure of the Divine Vibration in the brain enriches the intellect with wisdom. This is called as Bliss. The more bliss one experiences , the more peaceful the mind and more sharper the intellect becomes culminating in the full blown experience of Self Realisation or State of Nirvana (Samadhi)
